The most effective treatment for ROP is laser therapy. In our practice we use pattern retinal laser photocoagulation at optimal postnatal age in babies (no more than 2 months)
PROGRESSIVE MYOPIA IN CHILDREN
In our clinic we use several effective methods to reduce the progression
EYE MUSCLE DISORDERS. STRABISMUS (SQUINT)
Strabismus or squint is a visual condition in which the eyes deviate when looking at the object of regard.
The disorder results in problems with one-eyed (monocular) and two-eyed vision (two-eyed vision or binocular vision is the ability of the brain to take pictures from two eyes and "fuse" them into a single image).
Strabismus may be associated with some other disorders: ametropia (nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism); anisometropia - a condition in which each eye has a different refractive error; condition when eye muscles, controlling eye movement are not balanced or coordinated; diseases leading to blindness or severe vision loss in one eye; congenital defects of binocular vision.
Binocular vision
All these factors can influence the formation of binocular fixation in children and cause strabismus.
Types of strabismus
Strabismus is classified into many different types:
Strabismus may beconcomitantor incomitant (paralytic). Concomitant strabismus is more common in children. Concomitant strabismus is characterised by an angle of deviation which remains the same in all directions of gaze, whichever eye is fixing. Concomitant strabismus is one of the commonest problems in paediatric ophthalmology affecting 1.5-2.5 % of the childhood population. Incomitant strabismus occurs when the degree of misalignment varies with the direction of gaze.
An eye can turn in either the horizontal or vertical direction. Thus, there are different possible misdirections: convergent strabismus (esotropia) in which one eye turns inward, divergent strabismus (exotropia) in which one eye turns outward, vertical strabismus in which one eye turns upward.
When the eye turn occurs all of the time, it is called constant strabismus. When the eye turn occurs only some of the time , it is called alternating strabismus (one eye will be the deviating eye at certain times, while the opposite eye will be the diviating eye at other times).
The common complication of strabismus isamblyopia.
Our clinic provide a complete and comprehensive eye diagnostics and squint workup. The treatment of squint should be indicated by an ophthalmologist and should be started as soon as possible. A delay in treatment may decrease the chances of getting a good alignment and the vision.
